How to Measure Your Inseam

Do you know how to measure your inseam?

Not unlike regular clothing, tactical pants are manufactured in multiple countries around the world. And like regular clothes, different brands can fit differently, even when they are supposedly labeled the same size.

Joint Force Tactical carries a great selection of Vertx and 5.11 Tactical pants. Depending on the brand you choose, the length of the inseam may not always be the same between different brands of tactical pants.

Therefore, it is important for you to know how to measure your inseam yourself. Knowing your inseam length can be very helpful when you are shopping for tactical pants.

Soft Tape MeasureUse A Soft Fabric Measuring Tape

It is best to measure your inseam with a soft flexible measuring tape like a sewing tailor tape or body measuring tape.

These are typically dual sided with inches clearly printed on one side and centimeters printed on the opposite side for easy accurate measuring.

Tailor tapes are ideal for taking body measurements such the pant inseam, outseam, and waist measurement.

Measuring Your Inseam

Most manufacturers will include the waist, the outseam, and the inseam measurement on the size tags attached to the tactical pants.

What is the inseam of pants?

The inseam is the inside leg measurement between your crotch and the bottom of your ankle where the hem of the pants leg opening is located.

Ask For Help or Measure It Yourself

You can ask a tailor or family member to measure your inseam while you are wearing the pants but if you need to measure your inseam yourself, here’s a simple way to do it:

  • Take an existing well-fitting pair of pants that you own and lay them flat on a tabletop or flat on the floor.
  • Use a soft tailor measuring tape and measure the length of the inside of the pant leg between the pant crotch and the leg opening.
  • If you feel you need your waist measurement as well, you can measure this at the same time as well.

How to Measure Your Pant Waist Size

To take your waist measurement, take an existing well-fitting pair of pants that you own and button them closed (or close the clasp). Lay them on a flat surface and measure the waistband width with a soft flexible measuring tape. Then, simply multiply that number by 2 to get your waist measurement.
